UK police scored hundreds of thousands of residents with AI, and some models failed accuracy tests

A WIRED investigation found that Avon and Somerset Police in Bristol used AI to assign risk scores to hundreds of thousands of residents. Officials abandoned at least two models that scored children's risk after staff decided the results could not be trusted. The report appeared as the UK government launched PoliceAI, a £75 million program to spread AI tools across 43 police forces.

Amazon said on June 25 it will invest $48 billion in India between 2026 and 2030. The plan adds $13 billion for AI and cloud computing centers in Mumbai and Hyderabad. CEO Andy Jassy announced the figure after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

General Intuition raised $320 million in new funding, valuing the company at $2.3 billion. The New York startup trains AI using billions of video game clips to teach machines to move through real spaces. Jeff Bezos and Eric Schmidt joined the round, which Khosla Ventures led.

Patronus AI raised $50 million in a funding round led by Greenfield Partners, bringing its total funding to $70 million. The San Francisco company builds copies of websites and business software where AI agents can be tested before companies use them. Two former Meta researchers founded the company in 2023.
