Agility Robotics has been building walking robots since 2015, long before humanoid robots became a fashionable investment theme. Its robot, Digit, is a six-foot-tall machine that carries totes and bins in warehouses. It is not impressive in the way a concept video is impressive. It is impressive in the way a delivered package is impressive: it works, repeatedly, in a real facility, for a paying customer.
That distinction matters enormously right now. Every serious robot company talks about deployments. Agility is one of the very few that can point to actual commercial hours logged. Digit has accumulated over 65,000 hours of real operation across nine customer facilities, including GXO, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, Schaeffler, and Mercado Libre. No other humanoid company is close to that number.
The comparison with Tesla is instructive. Tesla has been the loudest voice in humanoid robotics for four years. Elon Musk said in January 2025 that Tesla would build roughly 10,000 Optimus robots that year. By January 2026, he admitted none were doing useful work in Tesla's factories. Production at Fremont only began in earnest around July 2026, and Musk himself called volume predictions for this year "literally impossible." Tesla has never sold a single Optimus robot to an outside customer, and there is no order page, no price listed, and no waitlist.
This is not a criticism of Tesla's ambition. It is context. The gap between Musk's announcements and what has actually shipped is large and consistent. Every major Optimus production target since 2022 has been missed.
Meanwhile, Agility is going public. The company is merging with Churchill Capital Corp XI in a deal that values it at $2.5 billion, and its shares are expected to trade on Nasdaq under the ticker AGLT. That would make it the first publicly listed pure-play humanoid robot company with active commercial deployments.
The financial picture deserves a clear read. The $300 million in "secured orders" the company cites is future contract value, largely from a single three-year deal for 1,000 robots with an undisclosed customer. It is not current revenue. Agility's actual trailing revenue was around $37 million, against cash spending of roughly $100 million in 2025. The company is burning more than twice what it earns. That is normal for a company at this stage, but public investors will need to watch that gap closely.
The business model is structured as a subscription: customers pay a per-hour fee, currently around $30 per hour, which covers the robot, the software, maintenance, and fleet management. A US warehouse worker costs $18 to $25 per hour in wages alone, and more when benefits and turnover costs are included. The economic argument is straightforward in high-wage markets with staffing problems.
The new Fremont facility is where Digit learns new tasks before going into customer sites. Think of it as a practice warehouse. The next version, Digit v5, expected this fall, will be able to detect and work near human workers rather than requiring a robot-only zone. That is a significant step toward broader deployment.
For anyone running operations in manufacturing, logistics, or distribution, the honest signal here is not that robots are coming to replace your workforce tomorrow. Broad factory-scale adoption is more likely a 2030s reality than a 2026 one. What is happening now is a first wave: narrow, repetitive tasks between existing machines, such as moving totes, loading lines, and handling bins. Those are also exactly the tasks that are hardest to staff, most prone to injury, and most predictable in their economics.
Agility's edge is not its technology alone. It is the operational data it has built from 65,000 real hours in production environments. Every hour in a working warehouse teaches the robot something a lab cannot. Newer competitors cannot buy that experience. They have to earn it the same way, one shift at a time.
