Nvidia and Palantir Launch AI Tool to Run Supply Chains

Nvidia is now running its own supply chain on AI software built with Palantir, and the two companies plan to sell the same system to any business or government managing complex, multi-vendor operations.

Nvidia builds the chips that power almost every major AI system in the world. Keeping that machine running requires coordinating thousands of suppliers and something like 1.3 million individual parts for every server rack it ships, spanning computer chips, memory, networking gear, power systems, and cooling equipment. Miss one part and the whole rack cannot ship.

To manage that mess, Nvidia has started running its own supply chain on software built with Palantir, the data and analytics company known for its work with militaries and government agencies. Palantir's platform pulls together information that used to sit in separate systems and lets Nvidia's own AI models suggest, explain, and flag decisions about which parts go where. A human still signs off on the big calls, but the goal is to shrink the time parts sit around unused and speed up how fast new AI computers get built.

This is not staying inside Nvidia. The two companies plan to sell the same system to any business with a complicated supply chain, and they have already tested it with Lowe's, which used it to manage more than 1,700 stores and 7,500 vendors. Retailers, manufacturers, energy companies, and hospitals are all named as likely customers.

The bigger idea behind this deal is what Nvidia and Palantir call sovereign AI. Instead of renting intelligence from OpenAI, Google, or Microsoft, a company trains its own smaller AI model on its own data and keeps full control of it. Palantir's CEO has been blunt about why this matters to him, warning that businesses and governments risk handing over what he calls their means of production by depending on a handful of AI labs in Silicon Valley.

There is real substance behind the sovereignty pitch, not just marketing. Governments especially cannot use AI systems built by outside companies for classified or military work, since the model has to run fully disconnected with no outside access at all. More than 180 government-backed projects chasing this kind of independent AI capability are already underway around the world, and this partnership grew directly out of work Palantir and Nvidia did for military and intelligence agencies before moving into ordinary business.

For companies outside government, the appeal is more practical. A custom AI model trained only on your own supply chain data can, in theory, beat a general purpose AI model at your specific job, and do it for less money. Palantir says the training process that used to take massive computing clusters now takes minutes on Nvidia's newer chips.

None of this is free or simple to set up. Palantir sends its own staff into a company's offices to install and configure the system, which is expensive and takes real internal commitment. But the direction matters more than the price tag today. AI is moving out of chat windows and into the actual decisions that run physical businesses: what to buy, where to ship it, and when. Any company juggling complex logistics should expect more vendors to pitch tools shaped like this one within the next year or two.
